Step-By-Step Guide To Making DIY Weed Tea

It’s Easy to Make Your Own Recreational/Medical Cannabis Tea

Looking for an alternative to edibles to get your blaze in for the day? Why not learn how to make weed tea. Weed tea, also known as Ganga tea, pot tea, or cannabis-infused tea is warming the core of stoners around the world. Like edibles, DIY weed tea is a great way to get a potent punch of THC and offers a discreet and delicious way to enjoy your favorite cannabis strain. Plus, with the legalization of recreational marijuana in Canada, making weed tea is another fun way to get creative in your kitchen.

The best part about making DIY weed tea is that there are a variety of ways to infuse and tailor cannabis tea to your liking. So how do you get started? All it takes is a little bud (we suggest Indica strains), a little time, and some simple ingredients you likely already have in your kitchen. Read on to follow a step-by-step guide for creating a delectable DIY cannabis-infused tea.

But First Some History: The Emperor’s Tea

According to history, ancient people enjoyed their “high” just as much as modern-day stoners do. In fact, the use of medical marijuana tea has been recorded as far back as 2737 B.C, and even the Emperor Shen Neg of China promoted bud-brew to help treat gout, malaria, rheumatism, and memory issues.

Even more is that history shows that weed tea was used by ancient civilizations on the subcontinent of India to alleviate symptoms such as dysentery, sunstroke, and other primitive diseases of that time.

It’s no wonder why the legacy of weed tea has passed on its wisdom throughout history. Intrigued yet? Then keep reading, because it’s time to prepare the perfect morning, afternoon, or relaxing bed-time cannabis-infused tea.

Preparing Your Weed Tea Step One: Activating Your Cannabis

Preparing your cannabis-infused tea will take about 30 – 40 minutes. We recommend decarboxylating your bud first, as cured marijuana flowers require heat to activate the cannabinoids to make it as potent as possible. Moreover, many cannabis edible recipes also suggest descarbing raw cannabis (heating it) to sufficiently activate the psychoactive effects contained within the plant. So if you decide to take the extra step and decarboxylate your plant material first, then preparing your weed tea will take a bit longer.

The quickest way to decarboxylate your plant material is to heat it up in your oven. You will need the following ingredients and equipment to get started:

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce of ground cannabis flower (a strain of your choice)

Equipment

  • A baking sheet
  • A metal weed grinder
  • An oven set to 230 degrees Fahrenheit

Method

Set the oven to 230 degrees Fahrenheit. Make sure the cannabis is ground well and/or separated into small pieces. Spread the cannabis in a thin layer, and evenly on the baking sheet. Set a timer for 30 -40 minutes and remove when brown. Let cool and set aside.

Preparing Your Weed Tea Step Two: Brewing Your Tea

Now that you have successfully decarboxylated your cannabis, it’s time to get brewing. Rich and soothing DIY weed tea is often made with butter or coconut oil, as these fatty substances will also help give the full effect of the strain. Next, you will need to round up a few other ingredients and kitchen utensils to prepare your weed tea.

Ingredients

  • Half a gram of ground cannabis
  • Butter or Coconut Oil
  • Boiling water (1-2 cups)
  • Honey or Sugar for taste

Equipment

  • One small pot
  • 1 metal leaf ball or empty tea bag (used for cannabis)
  • 1 tea bag for flavoring (optional)

Method

Bring your pot of water to boil. In the meantime, cover your ground cannabis with either coconut oil or butter, making sure each bud is coated generously in the oil or butter. This will activate the THC when brewed in hot water. Next, carefully spoon the bud into an empty tea bag or metal leaf ball. Place the tea bag or leaf ball into your boiling water and let simmer for 30 minutes. As an optional step, you can also add a flavored tea bag for taste. Let cool to room temperature or slightly warmer. Sit back, sip, and enjoy.

Another great way of making delicious and powerful DIY weed tea is adding cannabis butter, cannabis sugar, or a cannabis tincture to your tea. This cuts down on made-by-scratch weed tea preparation time. You might also try adding a little weed honey to your tea, as this can be a sweet little way to fly high for the day.

What Are The Benefits of Weed Tea?

The therapeutic properties of cannabis tea are plentiful, but many people use it to treat chronic pain, nausea, and sometimes as a sleep aid. One of the biggest benefits of cannabis tea may be its ability to treat certain mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression.

In fact, some studies are showing that when THC or CBD is used in small doses it can help sustain high levels of serotonin in the brain. Furthermore, clinical studies indicate that cannabis could help alleviate panic attacks as well as generalized anxiety. For people wary of traditional medicine, taking a cup of weed in the morning or right before bedtime could be an alternative solution to help appease certain mental afflictions.

Final Weed Tea-Bits

Weed tea is a great way to ingest your favorite nugs on the down-low. With that said, before you make your weed tea remember that preparation is key and we recommend that you decarboxylate your cannabis before brewing it. It’s also important to be cautious of the amount of cannabis you use in your tea, as it could be the difference between an enjoyable high or an uncomfortable one. Pre-made THC tinctures can help you avoid putting too little or too much THC into your tea.
